Introduction to Developmental Editing

Miranda Lukatch

The focus of this class is on a deep and substantive engagement with a text to strengthen or reconstruct an author’s narrative, argument, and objective. With careful reading and engagement of a text, students will experience what it is like to develop a manuscript. While there are no systematic solutions to a manuscript’s problems, there are patterns, tools, and strategies. We will explore these by evaluating a variety of trade and scholarly manuscripts.
